Quake 3 Arena Bots (© Id Software)

If you don't want to read all this and start modifying some stuff in your "Quake III Arena/baseq3/" directory, just add this file to it:
zenkbots.pk3 (or mail me for latest version)
In this archive, there is some modified "fw_items.c" & "fw_weap.c" files that will make your bots better and more entertaining.

Here's what the zenkbots.pk3 bot config archive will do:
(If you simply put it in your baseq3 directory)

1: Weapons Use
  • Shotgun:
    Shotgun is crap at long distance, so your bots will not use it to fire at enemies at more than 500 distance.
  • Rocket Launcher:
    RL is crap at very long distance, so your bots will not use it to fire at enemies at more than 1200 distance.
  • Grenade Launcher:
    This weapon is crap at long distance and crap if ennemy is higher than you. So your bots will not use it over 768 distance or if ennemy is 100 higher.
2: Items Collect
  • Armor:
    Your bots will simply take armors more seriously :-)
  • Health:
    Your bots will heal themselves more often. This is very effective imo. And they will go for that megahealth that they used to ignore most of the time...
  • Ammo:
    Your bots will not go for ammo if they do not have the corresponding weapon. Their need for ammo will be stronger if they are in "low ammo" state.
  • Weapons:
    Your bots will take weapons they already have when they are low in ammo.
Later I will try to explain here how to use the other files in the archive in order to make custom bots using weapons in their very own styles.
